7 test questions that will tell you the truth about the guarantee terms and conditions

What to look for in warranty terms and conditions of LED fittings so as not to be left alone with expenses in the event of a failure? Compare the proposed guarantee with the questions below and make sure that the manufacturer will take the responsibility for his product.

1. Are the warranty conditions matched with the lamp’s working conditions?

In the document, find the section that elaborates on the guarantee in the case of specific working conditions. You have probably heard of rejected complaints about burnt out lamps with an explanation from the manufacturer that they should not work at temperatures above 25°C. The provision in the guarantee should be clear on that and describe the acceptable working environment, as in the case of LUMI TEAM:

“Standard operating conditions are defined as follows: ambient temperature from -20°C to +30°C, humidity <85%, pressure from 690 hPa to 1060 hPa”

2. What is the position of the producer on the exceedance of standard working conditions (environment, temperature, humidity)?

Check whether the company is able to create a “tailor-made” fitting for you. Ask also whether it can provide you with a “special warranty” on a product that will work in conditions defined by you. We apply such a solutions at LUMI TEAM.

“If LUMI TEAM luminaires shall work in conditions deviating from the conditions described in a specification sheet of the Product, the Buyer shall be obliged to demonstrate assembly place conditions to the Guarantor. After their analysis, the Guarantor may issue written confirmation of using the Products in individually determined conditions and ensure extended/non-standard warranty protection or refuse it.”

3. What is the procedure in the event of a failure of the lamp?

A failure leads to taking immediate action; however, this may sometimes lead to the loss of warranty and therefore the user should have clear indications on how to proceed. As for LUMI TEAM, it is as follows:

  1. You get in touch by e-mail or mail with our Customer Service and report the failure by filling in the Failure Notification Form available on our website.
  2. After receiving our complaint receipt confirmation you send us the faulty luminaire.
  3.  In the Quality Control Department, we verify what the reason for the damage was and work on getting back to you as soon as possible.
  4. Unless external technical expertise is required, within 15 working days you will receive a report and our proposed solution.

We understand how crucial reaction time is and work very hard to minimize waiting time. We’re flexible, where possible we will send our team over to assess the situation or provide you with a substitute luminaire while we examine the failure.

4. Who bears the costs of dismantling a broken fitting and shipping it to the manufacturer, and then shipping the new product back to the customer and re-assembly?

Costs are an important element of the guarantee terms and conditions. Clarification of the financial responsibility at the document stage will help you avoid unpleasantness while filing complaints. In our General Warranty Conditions we clearly specify that if the complaint is justified we bare the extra costs, which is rare in this industry:

“Guarantor shall bear the costs of the Product disassembly, its shipment to the manufacturer, removal or exchange of the Product and its shipment to the Buyer only if the complaint is justified.”

5. Is the duration of the guarantee given with or without a limit on the lamp’s exploitation time?

This inconspicuous provision “translates into” 3 times more intense exploitation of lamps – some manufacturers provide a warranty for 5 years, but with a limited operating time established at 8 hours a day. In the LUMI TEAM warranty conditions there is no entry that indicates such time limits, thus the lamp can be operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for 5 years straight.

6. Will the lamp be exposed to power grid anomalies during its operation that might affect its durability?

Before installing the lamp, it is worth to consider doing an electric grid audit so as to verify its operation and eliminate errors. Within additional services, LUMITEAM can perform such a control so that Customers are sure that no event that might damage the lamp will take place during its operation and thus limit the warranty.

7. Is the entire fitting covered by the warranty?

Make sure that the warranty covers the luminaire as a whole. Sometimes manufacturers indicate a different warranty cover time for the driver and LED source – beware of that as the LED driver constitutes the element that crashes most frequently. At LUMI TEAM, the warranty covers the entire fitting (with power supply) and we suggest to pay attention to this when considering other manufacturers.
